Techniques of Acupuncture

Acupuncture treatment usually involves inserting several very thin stainless steel needles. These are inserted at various acupuncture points on the body.
The needles are very thin, so the patient usually only feels mild sensation, often described as distention or tingling. The needles can be left in place from only a few seconds or up to 45 minutes, after which time they are removed simply and painlessly.
All the needles we use are single-use, disposable needles.
There are many different types of needles used in acupuncture. They are very fine, ranging from 0.12mm in thickness up to about 0.25mm. They also come in different lengths and styles for different techniques. Chinese style needles typically are relatively thick and usually have a copper coil on the handle where as Japanese and Korean style needles tend to be finer, using plastic or tubular metal handles.
