Acupuncture for Chemotherapy Side Effects
Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine can be used to support people undergoing chemotherapy.
Acupuncture has been found to be effective in helping alleviate the nausea, vomiting and fatigue associated with chemotherapy.
According to a recent study, 'there was a 36% improvement in fatigue levels in the acupuncture group, while the acupressure group improved by 19% and the sham acupressure by 0.6%. Improvements were observed even 2 weeks after treatments'[1] Acupuncture was found to be a more effective method than acupressure or sham acupressure. It was found that the longer the course of treatment, the longer the effect lasted.[1]

Another study carried out by the Department of Rheumatology and Inflammation Research, Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Sweden, studied the effects of acupuncture combined with an anti-emetic drug in relation to chemotherapy and found that 'Acupuncture significantly reduced the severity, especially the duration, of nausea, as well as the number of bouts of vomiting following cyclophosphamide after 24 to 48 h. The number of bouts of vomiting was significantly reduced at the first session of acupuncture'
