There are many styles of yoga that emphasise different aspects of its practice, and we often get asked what style we do at Sanctuary Health. The short answer is Hatha. However our ‘style’ is informed by a number of principles that we think lend to a safe, intuitive and empowering practice:
- Breath as the foundation of all movement
- Connection to Centre
- Movement from the inside out
- Fluidity and openness
- Stability and connection to the earth
We have a range of yoga classes to suit different levels and needs:
This class is suitable for beginners or for those wanting a gentler practice. The Level One class is designed to help you to inquire into your own body’s uniqueness and work with it constructively using specific movement principles. Class usually begins with a breathing and awareness inquiry, which establishes the focus for the session and builds intuitively into a warm-up followed by yoga postures and sequences to increase strength, mobility and awareness. Classes often finish with guided relaxation or meditation. This class is equally suitable for absolute beginners, or more experienced practitioners wishing to reestablish fundamentals or perhaps those that are working through injury or illness.
This class builds on movement principles established in the Level One class and offers the opportunity to develop further strength and fluidity of movement through more physically challenging sequences. The class’s format is similar to that of the Level One class but assumes some existing understanding. The Level Two class is suitable for those who have completed the Level One class.
