Licorice is a Chinese herb used is virtually every kind of herbal formula - it is amazingly versatile and is used as a tonic and to balance the actions of other herbs. Recently, scientists found that Glycyrrhizin (a compound abundant in Licorice) restores the impaired tissues around burns area and improves the resistance to infection by Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria - commonly a complication of burn wounds.
