Moxibustion
Moxibustion is another very common technique used in acupuncture sessions

Moxibustion is a painless and relaxing procedure used for various conditions from Arthritic type pain to lower back pain during pregnancy to digestive upsets. It involves the burning of a herb (called artemisia) either on the handle of the needle or compressed as stick to warm the acupuncture point or meridian.
There are various types of moxibustion, suitable for different conditions.
The Moxa Stick was developed in the Ming Dynasty as a convenient, and easily controlled method of applying Moxa. Moxa wool is wrapped tightly in paper like a cigar and is lit at one end and held about 1 inch from the skin to warm the area being worked on.
