Running Shoes Damage Knees...
I've often seen patients who are keen runners suffering sore knees and other overuse-type injuries common in runners and athletes. One of the first things I suggest is getting better or newer running shoes. I recently came across an article that suggests running shoes can actually create more stress on the lower limb than wearing no shoes at all - interesting food for thought; Running Shoes May Cause Damage to Knees. This also reinforced to me the wisdom of traditional exercises that have stood the test of time such as yoga and martial arts, where equipment is minimal and training involves using body weight and intelligent, systematic exercises. I always laugh when I hear of such exercises described as 'new age'. In fact, Rugby and weight-lifting are far more 'new age' than yoga (by a few thousand years!)
